A TRIP TO THE MOON

A trip to the Moon is a 1902 film made by film pioneer Georges Melies. The Plot to the film is very simple; astronomers go into a space capsule and fire a cannon to go to the Moon. When the Astronomers arrive at the moon they see many different things that man has never seen before!

Now I know what you're thinking, the plot does sound a little cheesy, like how can a giant Cannon with a Space Capsule inside it launch them to the moon and when they arrive at the moon, they don't wear space helmets and without it they'll die, but through out the film they can breath on it. Another thing you may think when you see the film is how poorly the special effects are, like you can tell that the set design looks fake and you can tell the Aliens are people wearing costumes. So you're probably thinking what's the big deal about the film?

Well for starters, even though some of the writing does sound very unrealistic, you have to understand this was made at the time when films were just being developed, as films were just known as moving pictures that had no story! Years later, after when they learned how to move the pictures right, they started thinking about giving these moving pictures a storyline, then they get a couple of actors, give it a nice design, maybe a few special effects or action and vollia, films were Born! Yes in today's standards the special effects are cheesy, but at the time the special effects were amazing because people have never seen these kinds of special effects before! To me I do think the effects are cheesy, but I do think they were very creative, especially for that time! In fact, this isn't just one of the first SCI-FI films, it's also one of the first animated films because they were some animated segments in the film! The film didn't just WOW people at the time it's also one of the historic films that has changed film making!

You may be surprised about the rating I'm giving it, but since it's one of the most important  films in film history I'm giving it my highest rating. Dated, yes, but still an important piece of cinema, and the story as unrealistic as it is, it wasn't supposed to be realistic, it was supposed to be a fictional Sci-Fi film, and to be honest, I think it's very creative. The special effects again, they are dated, but even without knowing the historical impact of the film, they are still creative and do indeed have a charm to it. "A Trip To The Moon" is a must see to any film buff, and is a trip into film that I'll be riding many more times.

RATING 5/5
