THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF SPIDER-MAN 3-D
Queue
You are a tourist visiting "The Daily Bugle", but it appears no one's around except for the editor in chief J. Jonah Jameson and some of his assistance's. Shown on the television monitors in the Bugle are live news footage of The "Sinister Syndicate" led by Doctor Octopus who have stolen the Statue of Liberty with an anti-gravity cannon and threaten to destroy it if the city doesn't surrender to them. Spider-Man is off to try and save the day, but there's so much chaos going around that it looks impossible for him to succeed. With all of the reporters gone, Jameson sends you in his new "Scoop vehicle" to cover the story.
Looking at the Television Monitors, seeing all the chaos done by the Syndicate, and seeing Spider-Man always saving the city, it looks like it's going to be an action packed ride. As a matter of fact, I actually felt like I was in the comic, not just because of the comic looking set design of the Bugle, but also the fact the events that are happening in the city are shown on The News. I think the part that makes the wait thrilling is seeing all those News reporters in distress, because we know we're going to be facing all that soon. I also love the little promotional video of "The Daily Bugle" when you first enter the place, it seems welcoming at least until we get further into the Bugle.
The only criticism I have is the safety video before we get on the ride. On most 3-D and Simulation rides we're usually in a room to know what our part is in the ride and know what the safety rules are. Instead, when we're on the line that gets us into our vehicle, the Television Monitors in that area tell us what our mission is and give us the safety rules, but before you can even finish watching the video or even get to the safety rules, your vehicle is already there waiting for you. I'm not saying the News footage doesn't cover the story well, it does, but it would be nice to know why we're risking our butts to a hot head cigar smoker. After all, we're just tourists not reporters. As for the safety rules part, well, we all know the rules, we see it on every ride, however, they have to instruct us to know the rules for safety reasons and medical reasons, after all "There's always time for safety". I took the time to watch that video and let me tell you, it's one of the funniest safety videos I ever saw. Usually it's the safety videos that are both educational and fun to watch. Can you Imagine Jackass doing a safety video for a ride...THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUSLY EPIC.
THE RIDE
You're in the "Scoop" and you put on your night vision goggles (3-D Glasses) and you're being attacked by The "Sinister Syndicate" after finding their hideout; along the way you're constantly being saved by Spider-Man. The villains in the Syndicate led by Doctor Octopus are Electro, Scream, Hydro Man and The Hobgoblin. You're also in contact with Mr. Jameson back at the Bugle.
This ride literally made me feel like I was in the action! No matter where you go, you're always in trouble and feel like it’s the end. The 3-D effects are outstanding; it actually feels like the characters are jumping out at you. What helped with the 3-D effects are the background effects. For example, in the scene when you meet The Hobgoblin, he tries to throw a pumpkin bomb at you, but when Spider-Man makes the bomb go into a different direction, fire explodes out of a building that's not on the screen. What also helped make you feel like you're in trouble is the feel of it. When you meet Hydro man you can feel water splashing on your face, when you bump into Doctor Octopus you can feel the heat of the flames on one of his mechanical hands. The scene that makes you literally feel like you're doomed is the climax when you're being dropped off from on top of a building by the anti-gravity cannon in the hands of Doctor Octopus. I found the 3-D animation comic book colorful and very well detailed. The rock music throughout the ride adds the action feel to the atmosphere and I personally loved the guitar riff. I will point out this for superhero fans; look for a billboard of "Iron Man" on the ride.
The villains are scary and funny; however, the villain we spend the most time with is the leader. Most of the villains have a nice amount of screen time, especially in the videos in the queue area, but there was one villain that seemed useless to the group and didn't really do much in the ride. The villain is Scream, all the villains we bump into try to kill you, but Scream just jumps out at you and Doctor Octopus pushes her out of the way telling her "They're mine". What was the point of putting her in, it's nice to include her, but can't you try to make her do something threatening? As a matter of fact wouldn't it be awesome to see Venom on the ride that would be pretty scary. There were also times when I didn't feel like I was being pulled by the anti-gravity cannon, I still felt like I was on the ground. The biggest thing that I was disappointed with is, we barely see Spider-Man fight any of the Villains in the climax. We see that he's fighting them as we're being lifted up by the anti-gravity cannon, but you can barely see what's going on. I know it’s to make us feel like we're in the action, but still it would be nice to see Spider-Man fight.
This ride is defiantly I suggest people should check out. It's one of the most Epic simulation rides I have ever been on. It uses all kinds of different special effects to make you feel like you're in the film. It's not like one of those 3-D movies or simulation rides when the main characters forget you're in it. It has a good story, great cast of characters and plenty of action!!!!!!!!
RATING 5/5
