MY 20TH FAVORITE MOVIE VILLAIN

Villains, who doesn’t get a kick out of villains? We all love heroes, but it’s the Villains that pulls us into action. The Villains are the reason why there are so many problems for the hero; the Villains are the ones that make us want to cover our eyes or want to beat the living crap out of them. They are also the ones that have all the evil fun, just like how we are when we play violent video games. To honor the Villains of Cinema for making films scary, fun, and conflicting here are my top 20 personal favorite movie villains. This is how the list is going to work, I'm going put each one of my favorite movie Villain under a note, because if I wrote them all on one page you'd be reading it for more than an hour. I'm just doing it to make it easy on you. Another thing is don't expect to see them all in one day. I take my time on reviews and stuff like this, so keep in mind that it will take a while for me to post each one of them up. It may take a few weeks or so because I have movie reviews to write as well.

BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU MUST KNOW IS....THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!

NUMBER 20

THE CHILD CATCHER (CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG) PLAYED BY ROBERT HELPPMAN

The real Villain's in the film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" is The Baron and The Baroness, the evil thing about them is they run a country called "Vulgaria"(In my opinion not a very creative name, to close to the name of the country "Bulgaria") and there law is no Children allowed. As threatening as they sound, they're not really evil, they never have a scary moment; they spend too much time being goofy; and they lose their kingdom to a bunch of kids and angry villagers (Which in my opinion is a very cute idea). Sure they made the film conflicting but they still didn't catch my suspense. However, there is one Villain in the film that everybody remembers and that's the Child Catcher. The Child Catcher wasn't really a main Villain, he was basically a henchman for The Baron and Baroness and his job is obviously to capture children. When the main characters first enter the country to rescue their grandpa, the Baron yells for the Soldiers to capture them, at first it sounded like a normal plan, to have soldiers look for the Children, but once the Baroness yells for the Child Catcher you know this is not a normal search.

Having a Child Catcher may sound comical, but once we see his face and hear him saying "There are children here somewhere! I Can Smell them!" already we get chills! Alright so the guy doesn't look like a demon or Freddy Kruger or something like that, but his face is still creepy, not just because he has a long nose, but also because he has that evil look. The scary thing about him is the minute he smells the scent of children with his nose, he can tell where they are. He doesn't just have soldiers by his side, he also carries a net and a hook (I do not want to know what the Hook is for). I even get a little nervous when he threatens the Toymaker (Who kind of looks like Geppetto) by saying "If there are children here my friend...YOU WILL DIE!” The way he constantly searches for children is just terrifying. He destroys the Toy Shop; knows how people hide; can tell that The Toymaker is hiding something; and find hidden passages. When he finally leaves, we're relieved he's gone and hope will never see him again for the rest of the film....GUESS AGAIN!

He comes back dressed all colorful holding lollipops and ringing a bell disguised as a Candy Man and disguising his prison carriage as a Candy Carriage, yelling for the Children to come get some free candy. How he constantly yells for them to come get free candy is not just scary and disturbing, but sounds threatening at the same time. He even hops around the village grinning villainously and looking around for Children. This scene is so creepy that I hate to watch this scene slowed down. Finally, when he lures the Children to him and says the Candy and Ice Cream are inside his Carriage, he pushes them in and quickly takes off his disguise; starts laughing like a maniac; and insanely drives his carriage. When he finally takes the children to the Baron and Baroness he starts telling them how disgusting and wicked these "Foreign Children" are and the children are sentenced to be locked in the Tower. After that we never see him again until the big battle at the end of the film.

This guy didn't really scare me as a kid, as a matter a fact I actually hated him more then I was afraid of him. I hate him so much that I just want to punch him right square in the nose. In fact, at the climactic battle at the ending of the film he's still kind of creepy, but when he was surrounded by kids with weapons I was hoping they beat him up, but I forgot one important thing......IT'S A KIDS MOVIE!!!!!!!! So instead of beating him up, he gets caught in a net, I was disappointed but I was still cheering with joy as a kid. The thing I find amusing about him is that he's a good example to use to make sure children stay away from strangers and still is today. This guy is so creepy that you can find him constantly on Scary Movie Moments list including "The Top 11 Scariest Nostalgic moments" by my favorite Critic Doug Walker AKA That Guy with The Glasses. The Child Catcher didn't just scare children who seen this movie, he also scars most them; there are people in their adult ages who still can't get over being afraid of him.

I put him low on the list is because he doesn't have a big part in the film and only shows up for only a few minutes in the film, which in my opinion I'm glad that they didn't show him that much because I think he would seize to be scary. Another reason is the many Plot holes with this character. For example, why would the children go to someone calling out for children to get free candy in a country where children are forbidden. To be fair, they were hungry and when you hear somebody offering you all those goodies when you're a child you start to forget everything that your parents taught you and you begin to be careless, which I think that was the moral of the scene. However, there are many other plot holes as well. Early in the film, he told the toy Maker he'd kill him if he found children in his Toy shop. Later, he finds the children by looking through the window of the cellar of the toy shop, wouldn't he have killed the toy maker before the Barons Birthday or was he thinking "He's made something special for the Baron, I'll let him give it to him, then I'll kill him". However, the biggest plot hole of all is how could the children not recognize him, they saw him face to face when they were disguised as Jack in the boxes, and it's not every day you see a guy with a huge honker! Like I said earlier maybe the children were just careless, but I mean come on in "Home Alone" Kevin recognized one of the wet Bandits when he saw Harry was disguised as a cop with a gold tooth. When he said they got presents for him, he didn't take any of that carelessness he just shot him in the Jingle Bells with his B.B. Gun.

Despite the plot holes, The Child Catcher is still a creepy character and still remains as one to this day. If he smells children he'll just keep coming after them until he catches them.
