TERMINATOR 2 3D: THE BATTLE ACROSS TIME

I was at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida recently, and I thought now would be a good time to review some of the 3D Films and Simulation rides. Before I begin, some of you are probably wondering, why am I reviewing Attractions at a Theme Park? Technically, it is still a Movie, the only difference is the only place you can see the Movie is at the Theme Park and YOU'RE IN IT!!!!! Rides like Rollercoasters, Audio Animatronic rides, etc etc are not considered films they're just rides! With that out of the way, ON WITH THE REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm gonna start with the Pre-Show, cause Pre-Shows are the ones that help build up the thrill; give you an idea what’s going on before the film; and explain the plot from the previous film in case if you haven't seen it. Now granted, I should off start reviewing the first two films, but since this is a film that can only be viewed at the park I'm gonna make an exception.

THE PRE-SHOW

You (The Audience) are special guests for "Cybernine Systems", who get to have a look at what "Cybernine" is gonna bring for the future. You are hosted by a Female Universal Team Member (Which by the way I'm not gonna review her acting cause she's just a tour guide that can be played by numerous people). She shows you a Promotional Video showing you future inventions, including the return of the program "SKYNET". Everything's going well and seems cool until suddenly the Videos being hacked and is interrupted by Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and an older John Connor (Edward Furlong) warning you to get out of the building before they blow it up. They tell you Skynet is going to destroy the human race in the future and about the events from the last Movie "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" showing film footage. After that, your host reassures guests that everything's under control and you are taken into the theater.

I loved how the Pre Show film was put together! I really felt like this was a real Promotional Video despite the fact that I knew that this is just a Movie. Seeing all those inventions and what they were going to with them, made me forget how threatening "SKYNET" is. When I saw Sarah and John interrupt the video, I snapped right out of it and remembered how horrible "SKYNET" is.

I enjoyed the way they covered the first film for people who haven't seen the movie, while also having a nice montage of film clips, but I only have one question. HOW THE HECK DID JOHN AND SARAH ACCESS THOSE CLIP ?!!!!!!!!! I know it's to fill people in, but Sarah and John show you it on a tape that they made. How did they get all that footage? Was their secret cameras filming the events? Did John and Sarah hire a Private Detective? If any of those Plot holes are true, then how did they get film footage of the Machines destroying Man Kind in the future?!!!!!!!!! Aside from that, the PRE-SHOW builds up the suspense for the main show perfectly.

THE MAIN SHOW

You are now wearing your "Safety Visor goggles" (3-D Glasses) and your host shows you a demonstration of their new creation, the T-70 Terminators. The show is then interrupted again by John and Sarah who approach the stage to stop the presentation. Suddenly, the T-1000(Robert Patrick) appears and tries to once again terminate John and Sarah. Another Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) bursts through the screen on a Motorcycle to protect John. The Terminator takes John to the future to the war between Man and Machines to escape the T-1000 and to blow up Skynet. Along the way they are chased by mini hunters, Hunter Killers, a terminator endoskeleton, and the T-1000000,which is a giant liquid metal spider that guards the brain of Skynet.

The Special effects in the show are outstanding! They use all kinds of Special effects such as Audio Animatronics for the T-70 Terminators; an explosion of blinding smoke; excellent set design, not to mention the three screens set when we enter the future Skynet; and of course having amazing 3-D effects. Well the special effects are without a doubt impressive, but what about the actors? How did they do with reprising their roles?

Most of the show does have live stunt performers with the voice overs of the original cast who interact with the 3-D Screen, which my opinion captures the feel of being in danger, but there is nine minutes of 3-D screen time without the live performers. Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor still has the energy and the anger she did from the 2nd film, plus giving the show it's haunting narration like she did for the Movie. The only film footage of her as Sarah can only be seen on the Pre-Show Monitors. Robert Patrick reprising his role as the T-1000 is still as scary as he was in the last film. When I first saw his liquid metal face popping out of the    3-D screen and searching the audience for Sarah and John, I was thinking "Man what creepy entrance". Even the way he said their names was eerie, plus we do get to see his stabbing weapons pop out through the screen. The only down side is, he's only in the film for 5 minutes, which I found a little bit disappointing, but trust me there's lots of thrills when we encounter the machines, especially the T-1000000.

The main characters who have the most Screen time is Arnold Schwarzenegger and Edward Furlong. Edward Furlong reprising his role as John Connor is just as innocent as he acted in the last film, however, he's a lot more serious, which brings a new tone to his character. Arnold's reprising his performance as The Terminator, completely steals the show! "He's back" with more action, more butt kicking and quotable dialog even if some of it is a little campy.

The story is actioned packed and showing us more of the future than what the first two films show, also giving us a look at "SKYNET" in the future, however, there were a few unexplained plot holes. For example, how did the Terminator and John jump back and forth through the time portal and are not naked? If you remember from the first film Kyle (John's Father from the future) says "You go naked, something about the field generated by a living organism. Nothing dead will go." I know it's supposed to be toned down to be a family film since it is shown in a Family Park, but why couldn't they explain how, maybe it's an new upgrade to the time machine.

Aside from the Plot holes and lack of Screen time for the T-1000, the film is still awesome with it's great special effects, good acting and an action-ed pack storyline. This is something a Terminator fan or a person who loves 3-D films must experience!!!!!

 RATING 5/5
