WAYNE'S WORLD

Here's an SNL film spinoff that's just as great as the sketch itself...

Meet Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey), two young metal head bangers who have their own public access show in Aurora, Illinois in Wayne's basement. One day, Wayne and Garth meet a studio executive con artist named Benjamin (Rob Lowe) who plans to make money off their show. Wayne and Garth get tricked and their right to party maybe over. Wayne also meets a beautiful rock singer named Cassandra (Tia Carrere) who fears that Benjamin has the hots for her too.

It's very rare to see actors in a 8 minute or so sketch to be funny for a whole full length film, it mostly doesn't work. To my surprise Myers and Carvey are not only good at reprising their SNL characters but they become so likable, identifiable, appealing to it's young crowd, and above all are so funny that it proves that these two actors and their characters can turn a funny skit into one hell of a funny movie! I always get a laugh whenever these two are on screen and to me (especially being based off a skit) that's rare. There's never a dull or unfunny moment with these characters, they just keep getting funnier and funnier in every scene they're. In fact most of the scenes are so memorable and their dialogue is so quotable that not only can't I give them away but it's enough to fill a list of moments from this movie. I also love how they break the fourth wall and interact with the audience throughout the film where we the audience find ourselves really connecting and getting antiquated with them. The film itself even has a real killer classic rock soundtrack that gets better and better every time I hear it and watch this film. In fact, the most memorable sequence in the whole movie is when their in the car banging their heads and singing along to "Bohemian Rhapsody". If that's not enough for you, we get three different endings and credits playing the theme song as well as having Wayne and Garth appearing every once and a while.

Now for the supporting cast and characters. I must admit the whole cast is so funny and perfect for their roles that the film wouldn't be as good without them. Tia Carrere as Wayne's love interest is not only beautiful nor is she just funny but whenever she performs, she's amazing as well as having a true rockish voice. On top of it, the chemistry and romance between her and Wayne is both funny and appealing. Rob Lowe as the con artist executive Benjamin is so good for his part, so smooth, so smart and so full of himself that whenever I see Rob Lowe in anything else (let alone playing young Number 2 in "Austin Powers") I see him as this character. He also has an assistant played by Kurt Fuller who is just as fun and enjoyable as everyone else. Brian Doyle-Murray as the boss of a chain of Arcades is so much fun and so natural with his role, that he's just plain enjoyable and again whenever I see him, I think of him in this film. Lara Flynn Boyle as Wayne's ex girlfriend Stacy is so funny, so over the top and so cute as this character that I always get a laugh from her especially when Wayne tries to avoid her when she tries to hit on him. The film has a few cameos and appearances from Meatloaf, Alice Cooper, Chris Farley, Ed O' Neil, Frank DiLeo and even the T-1000 and not one of them is pointless or not funny, they all work and they are all enjoyable. I guess my favorite supporting characters has to be Terry (who says one of my favorite quotes from the movie) and their drunk and "Partied Out" friend Phil. I should also mention that this film makes a great time capsule to the 90's.

Overall "Wayne's World" is a very memorable comedy with great characters, jokes, dialogue, music that it still gets funnier every time I see it.

RATING 5/5

TUNE IN SOON FOR MY REVIEW ON "WAYNE'S WORLD 2".
