WAYNE'S WORLD 2

You must of caught my review on "Wayne's World" yesterday, so here's my review on...

Wayne no longer films his show in his basement nor does he live with his parents, he lives with Garth and the two do their show in an abandon doll house factory. One night, Wayne has a dream of meeting Jim Morrison  and a half naked Indian and Jim tells him that he should start a concert. Wayne takes his dream into action and decides to create a concert called Waynestock. However, his girlfriend Cassandra has a producer played by Christopher Walken and he's slowing pulling her away from Wayne.

Mike Myeres and Dana Carvey return as Wayne and Garth and I'm sure your probably wondering if they're as funny as they are in the skit and the first film? Myers and Carvey actually give these two metal heads the same fun personality and charm that they had before. In fact the plot itself is really good! I enjoy seeing Wayne trying to put on this big concert (which by the way, I love that it's a parody on "Woodstock"), I feel for his love for Cassandra the same way I felt it in the first film, and Garth actually gets into a really funny relationship with a woman (unfortunately it's not the woman from the first film. What was the point of having her then?). With that said, while having the charm and likability that they had in the first film, most of there jokes are more on pop culture. Don't get me wrong, the first film had a lot of pop culture jokes and references too but there was also plenty of original jokes to balance it out. Here, a good percent of it is pop culture jokes and references and while I do find most of them fun, it all lacks the originality that the first film had. I also didn't like how they rehashed the three ending jokes and the whole rich guy wants Cassandra subplot, that was just lazy and predictable.

Now let's get to the supporting cast, are they as funny as the characters from the first film? To be honest, the only major supporting cast member who returns to the film is Tia Carrere as Cassandra, that's it! No Stacy, once again no Garth's love interest from the first film, no one; aside from the cameos of Frank LiDeo and Ed O'Neil. Tia Carrere once again does a great job performing as Wayne's love interest but sadly and unfortunately, she doesn't sing at all in this film, when in the first film, she rocked every ones socks! We also get to meet Cassandra's father played by James Wong which actually leads to a funny little feud between him and Wayne. Christopher Walken as the antagonist, come on, IT'S CHRISTOPHER WALKEN! He's always funny and enjoyable as this jerk and as usual he's being his very Walkenish self; on a personal note, I think this is one of his best and funniest performances and seeing him in a Wayne's World film is just as fun as seeing him on SNL! Speaking of SNL, Chris Farley (Who made an important cameo and plot point in the first film) is now playing a friend of Wayne and Garth and boy is he just as funny and a riot as he is on SNL! Kim Basinger as Garth's girlfriend is not only good for her role but the relationship between her and Garth is really funny that's given a nice twist! Ralph Brown as Del Preston the roadie to help set up Waynestock, is not only well acted and funny but the character and performance brings the spirit to the films love for Rock N Roll. As for the actor who plays Jim Morrison, he's good but not as good as Kilmer and as for the half naked Indian, he has no dialogue but he still leaves a great impression! As for cameos, we have Charlton Heston, Jay Leno, Heather Locklear, Rip Taylor and Drew Barrymore, who are as fun as the cast of cameos in the original.

As for the whole big concert that this film was leading to, while being awesome and featuring Aerosmith performing "Shut Up & Dance" I wish I could have seen more. I wish I could see some great parodies to Woodstock aside from the last scene, I wish I could have seen a montage of bands that were suppose to play there. In fact, wouldn't it be nice to see Cassandra play at the concert or see Wayne and Garth sing the extended version of their theme song during the concert as the credits role? This event left opened so many opportunities that it's sad that they couldn't have gave us more. Sure Aerosmith plays at the event, which is awesome but instead of giving them a surprise appearance to close the film, we actually see them in the beginning of the film as well. Think about if "Detroit Rock City" showed Kiss playing at the beginning of the film as well, it would ruin all the awesomeness, appearances and build up to the big concert at the end of the film and sadly that's what this film did with Aerosmith.Oh and as for the films soundtrack, it's as great as the first film.

While the film doesn't have the same magic as the original, rehashes some of the humor and plot points from the first film and misses the many opportunity's that they could do with Waynestock, it's still funny. The casting is great, Myers and Carvey are still hilarious, the music's rockin and the humor despite being mostly parodies on pop culture than being as original as the first film, is still funny. Overall, give it a chance!

RATING 4/5
