TIM BURTON'S BATMAN

The film is basically your good vs evil plot. The Joker (Jack Nicholson) is causing chaos in Gotham City and Batman (Michael Keaton) has to stop him. In my opinion, this is the best Batman film of all time! It has all the greatness that a Batman film should have and the casting is right on the money. Before I get to the characters, performances, action and look, let me just tell you a few of the great things to come out of this film. First off, it was the first dark and serious Batman film to have ever come out and do to it's dark style, it was one of the main reasons why the classic Animated Series was made. It's true that Tim Burton never read a comic book, but with that said, he still made this film the way Batman should be treated as. As for "Batman Returns" that's a different review!

Michael Keaton as our hero is the best actor to ever play a dark and serious Batman! When he's Batman, he's threatening, intimidating, classy, has a cool and threatening dark voice and even his smile is badass. He's the Batman that we all know and love and he's the first person to play this type of Batman. When he's Bruce Wayne, you don't really suspect him to be Batman, you just see him as this quiet millionaire. Whenever you see him as Bruce, you feel his pain and emotions while he's trying to keep to himself. There are no tears, no screams, it's all done subtle and the subtleness is what makes it more powerful and sad. His Butler Alfred played by Michael Gough is the part, it just literally feels like that he is the character then playing a character. As for the Batmobile, the Batmobile is the coolest version of the Batmobile that I have ever seen!

Jack Nicholson as The Joker, my goodness does he steal the show. Every time he's on screen, he's the focus! He's not only always fun to watch, but he's the first dark version of The Joker that kills people. This version of The Joker was very unpredictable, had no exact plan, all he just wants to do is spread chaos, that's it. I also love that he has deadly gag toys to kill his victim. On top of it, he also has the coolest henchmen in the franchise named Bob, who is just too damn cool, even if he does so little. On a personal note, my favorite Joker of all time is Jack, the other ones such as Romero, Hamill and Ledger are just as great too, but with Jack, I personally always get a kick out of him the most.

Finally, we have the love interest Vicki Vale played by Kim Bassinger. While being a typical damsel in distress she still is fun, smart and likable. Her relationship with Bruce is great and interesting; I love how she tries to figure out who Batman is; she can think of something to do quick in a situation; and while being kind she does have her limits. Kim Bassinger is playing the character as natural as the whole cast and she too is as interesting as our stars. Oh, and the chemistry with her and a guy named Knox who keeps hitting on her is fun.

Now the film itself is big and epic! With great acting, characters and a simple good versus evil premise, I also love the films look and atmosphere. It looks dark and edgy; it has a dark comic book look and feel; the music by Danny Elfman is really powerful; and the film has some really good strange and unrealistic moments that surprisingly fit the film fine. The action is really great, well choreographed, has great cinematography, awesome sound effects, but the best action scenes are whenever Batman and The Joker meet each other on different occasions. All this stuff is what I'd like to call what a true dark comic book movie should be like!

The film is truly the best Batman movie ever made and this film shows plenty of reasons why it is!

RATING 5/5
