MRS.SANTA CLAUS

Mrs.Claus (Angela Lansbury) is neglected by her husband Santa (Charles Durning) during the pre Christmas rush. She takes the reindeer out for a drive, but is now stranded in Manhattans Lower East Side in 1910. The film is a musical and let me tell it's not just a forgettable film, but also is a very boring film as well.

Angela Lansbury as Mrs.Claus, is a great casting choice, and there’s nothing wrong with her performance, in fact she actually fits the character of Mrs.Claus. With that said, there's really nothing that the writers gave her to work with. I like that she's treated more than just a wife of Santa, however, she's more of a political figure than a fictional character. This whole film is just her dealing with Immigrants, child labor laws, and "Women's Right To Vote". Sure, she carry's that Mrs. Claus charm, but she's more into politics in America than helping and assisting Santa. As a matter of fact, instead of being a Christmas film that takes place in the North Pole revolving around Mrs.Claus, it's more of a political film that takes place during Christmas. We barley go to Santa's North Pole, we're just stuck in the New York Street for Immigrants. Kids aren't going to understand this nor do they want to see Mrs.Claus get into politics, they want to see a Christmas film that involves Mrs.Claus at the North Pole. I mean when I saw the box, I expected it to be some musical film about Mrs.Claus's origins or have a plot where Santa is either sick or is so stressed out that he needs a break and has Mrs.Claus run the North Pole. This is way below my expectations and is below a child's expectation as well.

The supporting cast. Charles Durning as Santa Claus, well he looks more like Santa Claus in this film than when he did in "Elmo Saves Christmas". While getting the feel and impression that he is Santa, he comes out as a bore. Michael Jeter as the supervising Elf, I love Michael Jeter, however, he not only lacks being jolly too, but when he is jolly it's very down played; he too is another bore. The villain Mr.Tavish (Who runs the workhouse where the children work in) played by Terrence Mann, liked him at first, but then becomes boring after his musical number, I'd rather watch him in "Critters" then see him in this boring flick. The rest of the characters are all boring and easily forgettable. The only person aside from Angela Lansbury, who has any life in the film, is Lynsey Bartilson as the little Irish immigrant girl Nora. She's cute, likable, and the chemistry between her and Mrs.Claus is sweet.

Finally, the Musical numbers in this film. Almost every single one of them is forgettable, boring, corny and not close to being catchy. While Michael Jeter sings a happy elf song in the beginning, it only last a minute and a second or two; when we hear the villain song, he gets the same version of the elf song that's longer and while it was fun it became forgettable. Why does the villain get a longer version, while Jeter gets a short version, while also being his only song? The love songs are really corny and cheesy and boy are they boring. When I hear the Women's Right song, I expect them to sing the Votes for Women song from "Mary Poppins", now that was a catchy song! The only song I can remember completely is that stupid Whistling song, however, I will admit that it is at least a very cute scene between Bartilson and Lansbury. Other than that all the songs suck.

I really find this to be an extremely boring and forgettable film. Nothing holds it up, not even Angela Lansbury can save this boring film.

RATING 1/5
