NICKELODEON'S ATTACK OF THE GIANT VULTURE

Well I've been looking around the Internet for some nostalgia stuff and I came across this short film from Nickelodeon that I haven't seen for about a decade called...

ATTACK OF THE GIANT VULTURE

During commercial break, after a show, or early in the morning when "Nick At Nite" is ending, a series of different shorts would play. This short is from a series called "Short Films By Short People",where a short film made by kids would play and not only were these films done by kids, but most of them were actually creative and boy does this one show. Before we get to the film, let's start with the shows opening and closing. This series of shorts would open with funny looking cartoon kids starting up the picture and when the film would finish, they would all take a bow. The music that plays in the background is a really cool and badass riff that actually helps with the comedy for these animated characters. All I can say is, it's a really fun way to start out the segment.

Now for the review on the film itself. It's just basically about a giant Vulture chasing after children so he can eat them. The Vulture is a character I actually found more funny than scary, but with that said, that doesn't mean I don't find him scary for kids. The design for the Vulture actually looks like a deranged and psychopathic Muppet and for a film made by kids, he sure looks as real and life like as a Muppet. The kids, while not being good actors, they're still likable and fun. The film has a lot of good laugh out loud moments, as well as some dark moments. The shots of China Town in New York City are nice and I love the shot of the Twin Towers after that frightening opening of the film's title. The special effects are really fun and creative which again is what so great about the film. As for the film's moral which is you don't need super powers to be a hero, is done really well here. After the short film on each episode of the show, there's a short behind the scenes documentary of making the film you just watched which I find inspiring and insightful to young filmmakers.

This short film is a piece of the treasure I dug up from old Nickelodeon and I'm sure I'll find more treasures that are as great as this short film.

RATING 5/5
