Here's a fun film with Tom Hanks called...
A 13 year old kid named Josh, makes a wish on a fortune telling machine at the Carnival and his wish is to be big. The next day Josh wakes up to find himself to be an adult (Tom Hanks) and now Josh must find the machine that made him big so he can go back to being 13. However, Josh must now live life as an adult until he finds it.
This film is one of Tom Hanks's best performances! You really believe he's a 13 year old trapped in a adults body do to his mannerisms, his childish behavior, innocence and heck he even looks like the kid we previously saw! Tom Hanks is just flat out funny in this film and every time I see him, he's always enjoyable! In fact, when ever he appears on screen he's always the focus and show stealer. He's just perfect for this role and I was convinced 100 percent that he's a kid in a grown up body.
The supporting characters for the most part are all memorable and fun too. You have his best friend played by Jared Rushton which he and Tom are great whenever they're together. You have Robert Loggia as the fun loving boss; John Heard as the jealous boyfriend; Mercedes Ruehl as the Mother; and heck, even Jon Lovitz shows up a few times in the film. The only character I didn't like was the love interest played by Elizabeth Perkins. First off, it's NOT because she and Tom might have done it since he's technically legal of age, it's mostly because she feels forced into the story. The love story between them isn't good, it's actually boring and the character and performance is dull and boring. There's nothing likable about her, she's just bland, shallow and feels forced. With that said, at least Tom Hanks is good enough to make it entertaining.
The movie has to be the best film where a kid magically becomes an adult. Like I said, Tom Hanks does a great job in the role, but the film has really clever writing (Aside from the dull love story). I love how he survives in the city, I love how he became an adult, I love that there's a struggle between him wanting to go back to a kid and the humor is great for kids and adults. Most of the scenes in this movie are unforgettable, but of course the most memorable one is when Hanks and Loggia play on a giant Piano in "F.A.O. Schwartz". Speaking of New York locations, I love the shots of the city and Rye Playland. The score is great, it truly captures the fun, the magic and the emotion and it gets better every time I hear it.
Aside from the bland love story, the film is truly funny, Tom Hanks is great and it truly is a great film.
RATING 4/5
