DISNEY'S SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
Disney, a company that was a big part of our childhood and the memories and films still gets better as we get older. This month I'll not only review Christmas films, I'll also be reviewing Disney films, live action Disney films, and Pixar films, I'll also review their modern day crappy shows and sequels. Now some of you are probably thinking that I'm ripping off Doug Walkers "Disneycember", to be honest, it inspired me to do it, but that's not my main reason why I'm reviewing Disney films this month. First off, if you haven't noticed, this is the month where channels show a lot of Disney and Pixar films and I figured that counts as Christmas movies in a way, also in the horror Christmas film "Gremlins", the Gremlins were watching "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" in a movie theater at Christmas time. My number one reason is it's the month where Walt Disney was born and we wouldn't have Disney. Say what you want about Walt, the company, the films and how you think it might be poisoning our minds; but that's not going to stop the thousands of people and kids for loving those films because it has inspired us in many ways, gave us a great childhood and brings you that feeling that only the Disney magic can bring. If you're against Disney fine, just don't force your opinion on the people who are trying to enjoy it. Come to think of it, anyone who forces their opinion on anything are jerks to begin with.
With that out of the way, I'm going to start by reviewing the film that started it all.
An evil Queen finds out from her Magic mirror that her stepdaughter Snow White is the "fairest one of all" and due to her jealously, she wants her dead. Snow White runs away and stays in a little cottage where 7 dwarfs live. Snow White dreams that a prince will come and take her far away to his castle where they'll live happily ever after.
Snow White is one of the most sweetest princesses in Disney history. She's kind to everyone; takes care of the Dwarfs; and never even yells or gets mad at anyone. A lot of people do find her annoying because of her voice, but to be honest, I think her voice matches the sweet innocent character that she is. Her singing voice is beautiful and adds to the characters charm. She's defiantly one of the best Disney princesses, maybe not as strong or as independent as the ones that Disney later developed, but she defiantly isn't a bad character. As for her Prince, I must admit he's very bland, forgettable and I'm really upset that the creators dropped the idea of him escaping the Queens dungeon.
The Dwarfs, what about them? If you picture the 4 Marx Brothers and the original Three Stooges together, you'd probably get this, funny characters who never have a dull or an unfunny moment. Doc the head of the gang is serious, but is very funny too, especially when he stumbles on his words. Bashful is very charming and you got to love his secret crush on Snow White. Sneezy provides a lot of slapstick with his powerful sneeze. Happy is charming, but he doesn't really have as much character as the other Dwarfs. Sleepy can be a bit of a bore, but hey what do you expect, he's always sleepin that's what makes him funny, I also love the fly that's bugging him (No Pun Intended). Grumpy, maybe the only serious and heartless one in the gang, but he has good character development in the film. Finally, there's the Dwarf everyone loves and remembers the most and that's Dopey. He gets most of the slapstick, he's cute, he's always funny, and the best part is he's the silent one. People praise the Dwarfs so much that they forget the animals that accompany Snow White. They really shouldn't because not only are they cute, but they share the same amount of laughs and fun as the 7 Dwarfs.
Now the villain. The Wicked Queen is one of the most darkest and twisted Disney villains of all time. She tries to kill Snow White; she can create poisons; her design is creepy; and her old hag form is scary and psychopathic. I'm actually surprised that both forms of her are done by the same lady because both of their voices differ. She's also famous for causing one of the best deaths in cinema history. The face in the Magic Mirror she talks too is just a creepy and eerie as she is. Finally, you have her "Faithful" hunts men who not only looks scary when he tries to kill Snow White, but his scene leads to a very scary moment that made children pee their pants. She's really a great villain.
The songs in this movie are timeless and unforgettable. Snow Whites "Wishing Well Song","Someday My Prince Will Come" and "With A Smile And A Song" are all very beautifully sung and really haunts me when I hear them. The Dwarfs songs such as "The Washing Song" and "Yodeling Song" are always fun to listen to, and fun to watch. The Prince's song "One Song" is not only a beautiful song, but it's something you except to hear from your dream prince. The songs that I find the most memorable, catchy and timeless are Snow White's cleaning song "Whistle While You Work" and he Dwarfs theme song "Heigh-Ho". As for the animation, it's really amazing. It can be beautiful; it can be scary; but most of all it looks like an actual fairy tale coming to life. The score is beautiful and always fits in at the right moment.
This is not only a classic Disney film, but it's also a the first full length animated film. It has great characters; wonderful songs; a scary villain; and excellent animation. Snow White is a Disney film that will not be forgotten.
RATING 5/5
