THE WIZARD

When I first saw the cover of this film as a kid, I was hyped! It looked like it was going to be about three kids who some how get sucked in a game world, see many game characters including Mario, fight off the evil game characters and our boy being lifted would becomes a wizard of the game. BOY, WAS I VERY VERY VERY WRONG AND DISAPPOINTED! Here's the real plot. a young boy with autism named Jimmy (Luke Edwards) goes off to California with his brother Corey (Fred Savage) and a girl they meet on the road named Haley (Jenny Lewis). However, his Father and older brother go looking for him and a guy who specializes in capturing run away children is after them too. Along the way, they find out that Jimmy has a talent for playing video games and they decide to enter him a tournament against the other game wizard Lucas. Sigh, it's not that exciting or interesting to be honest, it's stupid and boring and that's what this film is.

The kids in this movie are flat out boring and bland. Jimmy is not interesting, Haley is a complete bore, Lucas is cool but very dull, even Fred Savage can't save this film! The adults are all goofballs. It may sound funny but no it's really creepy and scary, epically the adults at the tournament. There are also pointless subplots between characters. Corey and Haley's love relationship feels forced and the subplot between the father and the older brother is just plain stupid. The film also deals with autism, mental hospital, divorce and gambling, interested yet kids! The comedy has no effort put into it what so ever, the chases are boring and the emotional moments are extremely weak! By the way, every time I see this kid playing video games, I expect "The Who" or Elton John to show up singing a knock off of their song "Pinball Wizard" called "Video Game Wizard".

What this movie is more focused on, is being a long commercial with a story. I mean throughout the film and the films theme itself, it's trying to manipulate you into buying things and going to place. Here are the items.

VIDEO GAMES

THE POWER GLOVE

HOSTESS AND WONDER BREAD

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS

(BY THE WAY WHO DOES THAT COSTUME CHARACTER REMIND YOU OF?)

RENO

AND THE DINOSAUR TOURRIST ATTRACTION THAT WAS SEEN IN "PEE WEES BIG ADVENTURE"

Take my advice, don't watch this film! Go outside, hang with your friends, play a video game! Anything is better then watching this corporate sell out of a film! If there's one thing I learned from this film, it's to never judge a film by it's cover.

RATING 1/5
