BLAZING SADDLES

The villainous Hedley Lamar (Harvey Korman) plans to attack a town called "Rock Ridge" so he can move the railroad tracks through the town. However, a Black Sheriff named Bart (Cleavon Little) and the Waco Kid (Gene Wilder) who has the fastest hands "In the world" stand in his way. The film is a Western parody and to me it's the best and the ultimate Western parody of all time.

Our main characters are one of Mel Brook's best characters. Bart and the Waco Kid are so funny, so comical, so over the top that they make an awesome duo. The villain played by Harvey Korman, is hilarious and outstanding, while giving his character a lot of class and dignity. Western actor Slim Pickens does a great job as Hedley’s partner and I love the comical gay innuendos that he and Hedy Hedley sure together on-screen. Madeline Kahn as the whore Lili Von Shtupp is not just a funny character with a funny as hell accent, but she was also nominated for an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress and to be honest she deserves the nomination. Mel Brooks plays three characters instead of one. He plays a cross eyed sex loving Governor, a Yiddish speaking Chief Indian, and makes a blink and miss cameo as a Nazi. As for the rest of the characters like the tough and gigantic Western bandit Mongo, the medieval executioner, the gay director (Dom Deluise), and the Towns people and workers are all funny and memorable characters that never stop being as enjoyable as ours leads.

The film itself has to be Mel Brook's most racist, insulting, stereotypical, sexist comedy film he's ever made and I laughed at everything he threw at me while being shocked here and there. He mocks almost every race including the blacks, the Asians, the rednecks, the Jews, and the gays in a matter so insulting and offensive that he's not afraid to move forward with the humor instead of moving back. By the way how many times do we hear the N word in this film, they use it pretty often? But as offensive and shocking as the humor is, it never really goes too far to the point where it becomes tasteless and mean spirited where it lacks being funny. With racial humor aside the film carries plenty of cartoony slapstick, toilet humor, anachronism, parody, celebrity puns, vulgar moments, and fourth wall jokes that will keep you laughing and entertained. The film also comes complete with songs that are really memorable and catchy, while also being clever parody's on other songs as well.

The film has so many funny moments that I could talk about them for hours or have a top pick of favorite moments but then I'd be spoiling the jokes for you. This is one of Mel Brooks best and most controversial and risky film he's ever made, and if you haven’t seen it yet, see it, because I really don’t want to spoil the humor that this film has to offer to people who have never seen it before.
RATING 5/5
