TOP 10 FAVORITE MIKE MYERS SKITS FROM SNL

Well, it's Saturday and I said I was going to do a Mike Myers related list of him being in his prime before "Cat In The Hat" and "Love Guru" and his prime is when he was on SNL. Don't get me wrong, he did have a successful film career by being in films such as "Wayne's World", "Austin Powers" and "Shrek", but SNL is what many consider the highlight of his career and what indeed launched him into his film career. So join me as I give you...

MY TOP 10 FAVORITE MIKE MYERS SKITS FROM SNL

NUMBER 10

HEDLEY AND WYCHE

In this Commercial skit, Myers plays a British man in an English pub promoting a British Toothpaste called "Hedley And Wyche". The toothpaste, however, is made out of two full teaspoons of sugar, which only rots your teeth than cleans it and as a result, we see Myers and the rest of the SNL cast with yellow rotten teeth. Stereotypical, yes; gross, absolutely; but at the same time, it's really fun and enjoyable to see the SNL cast members have fun with it and Mike Myers is really funny at selling out this fictional item. Speaking of bad British teeth jokes, Myers will indeed have that as a running gag in his "Austin Powers Trilogy". "Hedley & Wyche. The British toothpaste. You don't have to brush your teeth every week - but you just might want to!"

NUMBER 9

LANK THOMPSON: I'M A HANDSOME ACTOR

Mike Myers plays a full of himself handsome actor named Lank Thompson, who likes to help other actors become as handsome as he is with his line of videos. As he promotes his videos, he brings his former student (And SNL cast member) Alec Baldwin on the stage to demonstrate the many acting techniques that Lank has taught him to be a handsome actor, such as to always look at the camera to stay handsome which requires to not look away even when signing something; act mellow dramatic; use silly cliches, such as taking off your glasses to bring a handsome charm and to just pick up a phone instead of dialing the number; and above all, stay handsome. You'll also find out the many other actors who took his acting class, including David Hasselhoff and Robert Wagner (Who played Number 2 in the "Austin Powers" films). Mike Myers and Alec Baldwin really make a great team in this skit and are both really funny at delivering the humor and mocking the cliches that have been done in film. Remember, if you want to purchase Lank Thompson's video set on becoming a handsome actor "Don't dial, just pick up the phone".

NUMBER 8

ALL THING'S SCOTTISH

This next sketch is a sketch I found under the Bonus Features on the second DVD (The DVD with Myers's headshot on the cover). Before SNL goes live, there would be an  8 o'clock dress rehearsal where they would treat it like the live show, only it's done in 25 minutes. After the rehearsal, they would make changes and take out a few of the skits. This skit is one of them and it's a shame too, because I really enjoyed it. Mike Myers plays an immigrant Scottish owner of a shop that sells nothing but Scottish stuff and his son played by Christopher Walken goes against his Dad's wishes and traditions so that they can live an American life then resort to their country's traditions. Mike Myers is known at playing Scottish characters like Fat Bastard and Shrek and seeing him playing a Scottish character in this skit is just as funny as his future performances I just mentioned. His accent is fun, his mannerisms are funny, he puts a good amount of energy into his character and he steals the spotlight away from Christopher Walken. Christopher Walken is awesome too, especially when having an Americanized yet Scottish accent, and he and Myers are great when they are together, especially when they fight and argue. Walken and Myers would later on be in "Wayne's World 2" together as rivals and the name of Walken's character in the skit is Angus, who will later play Colonel Angus on SNL as time goes by. It's a fun skit that may not have been aired live on TV, but at least it was good enough to be part of the second "Best Of Mike Myers" DVD. Remember, "If it's not Scottish, it's crraaaappppp!"

NUMBER 7

MICK JAGGER

While Myers's Ron Wood impersonation from "The Rolling Stones" was funny, his Mick Jagger impersonation takes the cake. Yeah, while I can't separate Myers's from the person he's impersonating since he's hamming it up like Myers's usually would, he's still funny. His British accent matches Jagger's British accent to a certain extent; his facial expressions remind me plenty of Jagger; and to make this skit even funnier the actor playing a stoned out Keith Richards is actually played by Mick Jagger himself who I never recognized at all. Like I said, it's not the best impersonation of Jagger since we can clearly see Myers's underneath it, but with that said, Myer's performance is still fun and good enough to pass as a good fun impersonation on Jagger. And having the real Jagger in the skit playing another famous and iconic member of "The Rolling Stones" is what makes it so awesome.

NUMBER 6

SIMON

Mike Myers plays a little British boy (He sure loves playing British people) who suffers from gigantisms (From what I read) and has his own TV show filmed with him in the bathtub showing his drawings of his life which isn't really pretty but doesn't fully understand it, so he remains all happy and cheerful. Myer's is tons of fun as this British boy with his exaggerated British accent and succeeds in bringing the childlike innocence to the character. I also love the character's catchphrase "Don't look at my bum" as he bends over to get a drawing. While Simon is a recurring character, we only get one skit of him which are the same on both DVDs. Simon talks about his Christmas in Atlantic City with his gambling father and has Danny Devito as his special guest playing an Italian American son around Simon's age who's Father is in the Mafia and plans to go into business with Simon's Father. The drawings Devito shows of his life are not pretty either; he remains just as oblivious to the sadness of his life just like Simon is; and I love how rude and obnoxious he is, while Simon is polite and cute. Simon is a really cute and fun character played and written by Myers and the chemistry between him and Devito's character is great.

NUMBER 5

MIKE MYER'S HOSTING SONG

In the opening to the show and long after since Myers left the show; Myer's came back to SNL to finally host the show. He starts with a short monologue about former SNL cast members coming back to the show while also promoting his first "Austin Powers" film and after realizing that it's now his night to shine, he breaks into song. He sings a song about him hosting the show with the SNL cast members surrounding him; makes fun of how the dress rehearsal cuts out some sketches (Remember when they cut out his "All Things Scottish" skit); gets a free pass from being whipped from creator of SNL Lorne Michael's after messing up a cut skit during dress rehearsal since he's now the host; breaks into a small dance; gets lifted up by a visible wire so he can fly and it ends with a big celebration. I honestly can't think of an SNL introduction as big and epic as this and seeing Myers finally getting his chance to host is what makes this moment land as number 5 on the list.

NUMBER 4

PHILLIP THE HYPER HYPO KID

While he was funny playing the British kid Simon; this is my favorite performance of Myers playing a kid. He plays a kid named Phillip, who's hypoglycemic, wears a helmet, and is harnessed to a jungle gym; and throughout the skit he hits on Nicole Kidman who's playing a little girl from Australia as he tries to break free. The reason why I topped this skit over Simon is because Myer's stands out more in this skit than he did as Simon. In his Simon skit, while still a funny and likable character, Danny Devito kind of becomes more of the focus than Myers is. In this skit, Myer's becomes more of the star and focus. Furthermore, I find him non-stop hilarious in this skit with his over the top energy; hilarious mannerisms and facial expressions of being a hyper kid; the dialogue is fun and quotable; and the chemistry between him and Kidman is done so well that neither of the two performers are stealing the spotlight away from each other. Oh, and whatever you do, don't give this kid chocolate!

NUMBER 3

LINDA RICHMAN FROM COFFEE TALK

This skit originally starred the character Paul Baldwin (Who was also played by Myers) who spoke in the stereotypical New York accent and took in calls. During the same year that this skit was aired, Baldwin was written out and replaced with a parody of Myer's Mother-In-Law Linda Richman. Richman is a middle-aged Jewish woman who speaks in an over exaggerated New York and Jewish accent (And sometimes would speak Yiddish); wears gold jewelry, painted fake nails, gaudy sweaters and dark sunglasses; always adjust her big hair; she would obsess over Barbra Streisand; and would give the audience a topic to talk about whenever she's stressed or upset. The mannerisms, the ongoing gags, the writing, the accent and quotable catch phrases ("Give a call, we'll talk, no big whoop."; "like buttah") are all what makes this a really funny character and great performance by Mike Myers. The skit on both DVDs is the one that features Madonna (Who mocks herself), Rosanne Barr and a cameo from Barbra Streisand (Who Mike Myers will later get to perform as Linda Richman with Barbra in her 1994 concert) which should be on any DVD featuring Myers on SNL. On the first DVD (The Wayne's World Cover) under the special features; you'll also see Linda Richman talk and sing about the Oscars with Ana Gasteyer. Linda Richman is one of Myers's most beloved and iconic characters in his career and this performance does deserve to be on the top 3 of my list.

NUMBER 2

DIETER FROM SPROCKETS

In the skit "Sprockets" which was a show that parodied German art culture in the 80's; Myers plays a bored and feminine West German host named Dieter who dresses up in black, wears glasses, and slicks his hair back as he would interview celebrities that he has no interest in at all and would sometimes give his guests the privilege to touch his Pet Monkey Klaus. When his show is over, he and his crew would dance to techno music to close out the skit. Much like Myer's performance as Linda Richman, it's the stereotypical mannerisms, over exaggerated accent, ongoing gags and quotable catch phrases ("Touch My Monkey"; "I'm as happy as a little girl") that make this character and performance stand out. The reason why I put him higher than Richman is because not only do I find myself laughing more than his classic Linda Richman skits, but there's also lots of creativity put into the skits on both DVDs. Each DVD features the same two skits. One is Dieter showing "Germany's Most Disturbing Home Videos" with special guest Kyle MacLachlan who's just as funny as Myers is; and the other skit is Dieter in a very surreal and odd, but yet funny dream sequence. Mike Myers was planing on making a movie starring this character, but decided to drop it due to the unhappiness of his own script, which is a shame because I would love to see a movie starring this character.

AND MY NUMBER 1 FAVORITE MIKE MYERS SKIT FROM SNL IS...

WAYNE'S WORLD

I freakin' love "Wayne's World"! The film "Wayne's World" is what introduced me to SNL when I was a kid, as well as being the first time that I was ever introduced to Mike Myers. A skit about two Metal heads who have their own public access show filmed in their basement and did crazy things from time to time is not only Mike Myers and Dana Carvey's best performance on the show, but it's also one of the most memorable and iconic SNL sketches of all time, period! The way Myers and Carvey would fool around and interact with each other is so perfect that none of them and I mean none of them would upstage each other. They're such a perfect duo that if they got separated or replaced it would never be the same. Mike Myers is perfect as the host Wayne and Dana Carvey is non-stop hilarious as his best friend Garth. Anyone who's seen the film or the skits can countlessly quote the many famous lines that these characters say which are indeed downright memorable and hilarious! Both DVDs have the same two skits, but the first DVD has a Bonus skit of Wayne and Garth teaching about the dangers of drinking and driving with their special guest star Ed O'Neil as a Driving Instructor, who's just as crazy as he is as the Donut Shop manager in the films. The two skits you'll find on both DVDs is the skit where Wayne gives his list of the "Top Ten Babes! Of All Time!" which then leads into a dream sequence of Wayne and Garth meeting Madonna which the dream itself is a spoof on Madonna's controversial music video for "Justify My Love". The other one which opens both DVDs and to me is my favorite "Wayne's World" sketch of all time; is when Aerosmith appears on the show to be interviewed and play the "Wayne's World" theme song, which also features appearances by Tom Hanks as Garth's cousin and Nora Dunn as Wayne's Mother (Who his parents never appeared in any of the films). "Wayne's World" is not only my favorite performance from Myers and Carvey (Spoiler for my favorite skits with Dana Carvey) on SNL but it's also my favorite SNL skit of all time!

And those are my favorite Mike Myers skits from SNL; I hope you enjoyed the list and I hope someday Myers makes a come back because he is indeed talented. Tune in soon for another list, till then "PARTY ON!".
