TIME FOR BEANY

"Time For Beany" was an old kids puppet show back in the  50's. Kids seemed to enjoy it, it won an Emmy and Albert Einstein would leave a meeting to watch this show. Since there's no DVD release of the show, I'm going episodes and clips that I can find. So here's my review on...

                                        "TIME FOR BEANY"
Time For Beany 1949

So I guess Beany is a puppet kid who wears a beanie and he's very close friends with a Sea Serpent named Cecil and they go on adventures with Uncle Captain. The episode left off with Cecil getting beat up by a shark with a hammer nose and now Cecil doesn't know who he is and thinks he's someone else. The human puppets are more freakier then the puppets on the show "Mister Roger's Neighborhood". They look hideous, they act weird and they're not funny nor am I conceived that they're alive. Cecil, is pretty scary and his goofy personality is annoying and obnoxious. He looks more alive and life like than the other characters but then again I feel like he's just a living sock then a Sea Serpent. Oh as for the shark, he looks like a toy. I can pretty much rate the whole entire show by this episode but who knows maybe there are better ones.

Uncle Captain is upset that he can't see the president and Cecil goes in for a physical exam to become a federal agent for the President. The Uncle Captain plot bored me and when we meet the professor he's just as scary looking as the rest of the characters. The plot with Cecil going for an exam was ok, it did have some funny moments but it was mostly obnoxious and stupid. Still not good but a tiny bit better than the previous episode I reviewed.

CECIL MEETS THE PRESIDENT AND THEY JAM/CECIL AND HARRY TRUMAN DO "RAGGAMOPP"

I found this sketch on two videos. The first video is called "CECIL MEETS THE PRESIDENT AND THEY JAM" which shows the sketch but it's out of sink. The other video is called "CECIL AND HARRY TRUMAN DO "RAGGAMOPP" which just shows them performing the song. This skit follows after the one I just reviewed and shows Cecil meet a puppet of President Harry Truman. Is the Truman puppet scary, hmm is the attack on Hiroshima sad? Again this is creepy and obnoxious.

BEANY AND CECIL AS PUPPETS

This is the last episode and clip I can find from the show. Beany, Cecil and Uncle Captain go to "The 5th Corner Of The Earth" in search of a Giant White Gorilla. The humor is once again obnoxiously unfunny and the only joke that sort of works is the Mirror joke but then again it feels very dull and annoying. The songs, good heavens do I feel annoyed by them. The supporting characters are just as scary as the rest of the puppets. We have an African Native who is (You guessed it) a black stereotype with a lip the size of a beak talking in a very poor black native accent. The Giant White Gorilla is scary and looks and acts so demented that it makes Ro-men from "Robot Monster" look smart and intimidating. There's also a pointless and very corny educational moment when Cecil talks to a creepy looking clown that does nothing for the plot. Then there are birds that Cecil meets that look extremely fake and they are annoying and scary. This is another poor episode that wasted 30 minutes of my life and I won't waste them again by watching this piece of garbage!

You know those kids shows with nothing going on and is just on to keep you kid quiet, that's what this show is. The characters are bland, obnoxious and scary looking, the jokes are lame, the stories are forgettable and poorly written and it's nothing but stupid entertainment for kids. I don't know how Albert Einstein or Harpo Marx(From The Marx Brothers) find this show entertaining or good and I'll never know how it won an Emmy. However, in years to come there will be an animated version of these characters and believe me when I say, it's not only better but it's also a funny show and brings a better approach on these characters, BUT THAT'S A DIFFERENT REVIEW.

RATING FOR THE SHOW 0/5
