NICKELODEON'S DOUG PILOT EPISODE

For those of you who are wondering why I'm not reviewing the whole first season, here's why. I use to just review the pilot and the first season together but as time went on, I began to think that the pilot episodes are what started the TV series and if it wasn't for that episode, there wouldn't be a show. So I decided to review the pilot episodes as separate reviews, that goes for final episodes as well. However, I won't do it with a mini series and film serials, since they're more of movies with parts. With that out of the way, ON WITH THE REVIEW...

Doug, believe it or not is one the first Nicktoons show to be aired on the channel Nickelodeon. There was another Pilot episode called "Doug Lost His Strength" but I couldn't find it, so I'm reviewing what many people consider to be the Pilot called...

DOUG BAGS A NEEMATOAD

First off, let's start with the theme song. It opens with a pencil drawing a line and we see our main characters playing with it as the line turns into a rope, a hole, a swing and a wire. I enjoy this comedic opening and no matter how many times I see it, I always get a laugh. I also love the theme song which I find it very catchy and fun to sing along too.  A great opening to the show, now for the plot.

The Pilot episode is about the life of a 11 year old kid named Doug and he's the person we're suppose to focus and identify with. Doug moves into the town of Bluffington with his family and his dog Porkchop. In town he has a friend named Skeeter, a bully named Roger, a crazy neighbor named Mr.Dink and a love interest named Patti. By order for Doug to be accepted to be the new kid, Roger tells Doug to bag a Neematod.

Some people find the characters bland in this show but to be honest I like them a lot. Our main character Doug is very likable because he's identifiable and a character that most of us can relate too. The plot in this episode is something that most of us can identify with him which is our feelings of being the new kid in town. We also go into some of his daydreams that most kids at that age would think or day dream about. Doug is defiantly a good character and for those who've been mocked by their name being Doug, those idiots can hurt themselves cause the character resembles a lot of the typical kid around his age.

Now the characters. His family seems cool, epically his sister Judy and I can't wait to talk more about them in future episodes. His Dog Porkchop is really funny and is always fun to watch in every scene he's in. Doug's friend Skeeter is just as funny as Porkchop and whenever he and Doug are together, you can tell whether you've watched the show or not, that they're going to be good friends. Then there's Mr.Dink, who's once again a fun character and I love the scenes with him and his wife because they're both the complete opposite from each others emotions and character. Doug's bully Roger has to be one of the funniest bullies since Biff from "Back To The Future". He's mean but he's an idoit as well. Finally there's Doug's love interest Patti and his love for Patti is another thing we can identify with Doug at that age.

As much as I praise the characters and story, the only thing I didn't like is the animation. The animation looks to simple and some of it just feels like watching a moving picture drawing of  something a kid can do. I also find it weird that everyone has different color skin, then again it doesn't matter because this is a cartoon world and it's really not a big distraction. I also find the lip syncing to be off most of the time. The animation doesn't stink but it just could've been better.

Aside from the animation, the pilot episode has good characters,a nice story and a catchy theme song.

RATING 4/5
